Two years ago, Ian and Jack decided that more students needed to be part of the process of shaping their education and learning. We organized an event called the Iowa Student Learning Institute, a conference for students to talk about what changes they want to see in their schools.
Since that conference with roughly 200 participants, ISLI has evolved into a non-profit organization with a mission to revolutionize Iowa's approach to education through the power of student voice. We have made our fall institute an annual event, hosted StuCamp and a rally at the Iowa Capitol, and taken our message to several Iowa education conferences. We also started the Iowa ESL Student Leadership Team to elevate the voices of ELL students and unite the needs our Iowa's diverse learners.
As both Ian and Jack look to graduate, we are turning leadership of our organization over to a new group of students. We are looking for passionate students who would be interested in making a commitment of at least two years to continuing ISLI's work. We need a variety of students with different skills, including organizing and delegating tasks, speaking and writing, graphic design and web management, and numbers/accounting/fundraising.
If you are a student or know any students interested in learning more about this opportunity, please invite them to fill out this form by May 31st, 2015. We are proud of the organization that we have built, so we are hopeful that it will continue to grow beyond us. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact us.
