"Before attending the Iowa Student Learning Institute as a sophomore, I was the quiet kid who wasn't really involved in much and preferred to sit passively in the back of the class. Participating in the conference inspired me to take an active role in my education. I learned that the only way I was going to get anything out of high school was to put something into it, so I began getting involved in various clubs. Now as a senior, I play an active leadership role in my school and am trying my best to leave the school in a better place than when I came. I believe that my initial participation in the ISLI conference provided the spark I needed to take hold of my education, and I believe that it has done and will continue to do the same for many other students."
