Cedar Rapids students are advocating for public education funding.
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (CBS2/FOX28) -- Some eastern Iowa students want to make sure they have a real say in their education.Members of the Iowa Student Union say one of the best ways to accomplish that is by making sure school boards across the state have at least one student on them. The students are also working for a four percent public-education funding increase throughout the state. As part of the process, they are reaching out to state legislators.
"It's extremely important that students are able to advocate for what they believe is best for education," said Kyle Scheer, President and Founder of Iowa Student Union.
Hundreds of students from across the state will join at the capitol to observe and participate firsthand about issues, talk with their state elected officials, and become aware of the political process at a rally on April 5. The group primarily has a presence at Kennedy High School in Cedar Rapids, but wants students across the state to become involved.
