The Student Voices Matter Rally is Tomorrow: Here's What You Need to Know!

April 4, 2016

It’s only one day away until the Student Voices Matter Rally happening this Tuesday! We have a few brief updates to share:

  • Please dress in nice school clothes or business casual. Stay away from baggy jeans, sweatpants and sweatshirts. Legislators will take you as seriously as you are dressed for. We recommend dressing in layers as we are planning to be both indoors and outdoors. The predicted weather is 60 degrees with a strong wind.

  • Please remember that students or the school are responsible for bringing a sack lunch for the day. We hope to be eating outside.

  • The event will begin promptly at 10:00 AM in the Wallace Building Auditorium. Please plan to arrive with time to park, check-in, and take your seats. Check-in will open at 9:00 AM on E 9th Street (Main entrance for the Wallace Building).

  • The most current schedule will always be kept updated here.

  • Our official hashtag for the day will be #studentvoicesmatter.

  • Parking for cars and vans will be available in the parking ramp across from the Wallace Building on the corner of Pennsylvania and Des Moines street. The best way to access is through the Des Moines street entrance. If the lot is full, you will need to find parking on the street.

  • Parking for buses is available on the East side of Finkbine Dr between Walnut and Grand Ave- so come from the northbound direction. A map of the Capitol Complex is available here.

  • As you are thinking about what you want to talk to your legislators about, make sure you are thinking about what issues can be addressed at the state level and what issues are best addressed at the local level.

  • A note about technology: You are strongly encouraged to bring your phones to take pictures, share the day on social media, and exchange contact information with other students. However, make sure you are respectful during speaker presentations.

  • You may also want to bring a notepad and writing utensil to take notes during the speakers as wifi will not be available in the auditorium.

If you have any other questions, please visit iowasli.org/details or contact us directly. We are excited to see you Tuesday!
