The Iowa Student Learning Institute is hosting its sixth annual RISE Student Leadership conference for K-12 students across Iowa on Saturday, November 10, 2018 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The main focus of the day will be students.
An event put on by, for, and about students, RISE will consist of breakout sessions with topics important to young people and keynote speakers who aim to motivate students with their own stories. RISE encourages students to take the wheel and lead by example on a day meant for them.
This year’s keynote speakers will inspire students to take action on the educational issues that most affect them. Kevin Drahos of March for Our Lives Iowa will speak about his experiences with creating a nonprofit organization. Linda Brown of Movement 515 will share how slam poetry has allowed her to use her voice and create powerful statements. Finally, Katie Eder of 50 Miles More will share her experience of walking 50 miles with students in solidarity for their beliefs.
The event will be hosted at the Waukee Innovation and Learning Center (WILC) with lunch provided free of charge.
K-12 students, educators, administrators and community members wanting to create change in their local school are encouraged to register for this free event. The media is invited. Learn more and register online at www.IowaSLI.org/RISE.
