Create a group.

Find students in your school who are passionate about student voice and about making their school a better place. It’s easier than it sounds! IowaSLI has found that in every school there are students who care deeply about their education. Create posters, send emails, make announcements and do whatever you can to publicize your new Power of Voice chapter.

Get organized.

After you’ve found a group, it’s important to get everyone on the same page. Find a messaging system that works well for your group. Make sure everyone is included in group announcements so everyone is in the loop. After you have everyone connected, work together to find a time that works for everyone to meet. IowaSLI recommends weekly meetings.

Get together.

Make sure everyone in your school knows about your newly created POV chapter. A maximized exposure means maximized change. Set up social media accounts so those in your school can easily stay up-to-date. At your first POV meeting, brainstorm ideas as to how you can tackle the current issue. The ball is in your court, it’s your job to change your own education.
