We believe that the most impactful way students can be involved in their education and communities is by transforming their voice into action. At The Student Voice Rally, students will have the opportunity to advocate for action on topics of personal interest with like-minded and diverse students from across Iowa.
Unlike a typical rally, The Student Voice Rally brings together hundreds of diverse students from across Iowa to form a unified voice from the students of Iowa. The day will begin with hearing from political leaders, student advocates, and passionate adults that are pleading for student voices to be involved in the political realm. Then, the group will transition to groups based on their school or areas of passion and will be trained by professional lobbyists to craft their messages. The rally will then end in the Capitol rotunda meeting with legislators from both parties of the Senate and House of Representatives.
Hundreds of students from across the state will join at the capitol to observe and participate firsthand about issues, talk with their state elected officials, and become aware of the political process. Students will also be able to connect and network with other students from across Iowa.
All of Iowa's students need to be represented: ESL/ELL, students with disabilities, talented and gifted, FFA members, LGBTQ, STEM, Student council, and everyone in between. We want to show Iowa the diversity and inclusiveness of its young people! Gather a delegation from your school today.
This event will give students an opportunity to share their voice with the leaders who make decisions that affect students everyday. It will give lawmakers a direct connection to young people and a better understanding of education issues. More importantly, this is an incredible opportunity for Iowa students. We realize this rally is on a school day, but it will provide an authentic learning experience about how government works and how students can be a part of it in a way that can't be taught in a government classroom. Students will also learn from each other by meeting their peers from throughout the state that may have a differing perspective or a similar passion as them.
